2023. 7. 14(Fri) – 8. 13(Sun)
venue: 1. Palbok Art Factory 2. Hanbyeok Culture Center
Motohara participated in the ‘2023 East Asian Cultural City Jeonju Contemporary Art Exchange Exhibition’: 和(Wa)/Harmony’ exhibition.
Motohara traveled to Jeonju in mid-June of 2023, and cooked local food, Gimbab (rice roll), together with a woman who was born in Jeonju in 1963, the same year as Motohara’s birth year. As an extended version of “”Kitchen Stories”” project she had done in Nagoya in 2021, in which Motohara visited several households to cook meals together, this installation work comprises video that shows the Gimbab cooking process and the chat between the two women, as well as stories and memories from her trip from Shizuoka to Seoul to Jeonju. Two women, who previously didn’t know each other at all, are from different countries, have widely different life stories, but are of the same age and have lived the same period of time, met for the first time and shared a kitchen to make “”food”” that is essential to our life and culture. By experiencing this work, we witness how insignificant moments can become significant, and how simplicity hides complexity.
